OSDFA Monthly Musings: November Edition!
Happy International Education Week, Raptors! Can you believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner? This semester is flying by, and OSDFA has been staying busy supporting students applying for awards (including many global!) and advancing through the stages post-submission. Check out our updates, below:
International Education Week
Each year, the US Department of State and US Department of Education co-sponsor “International Education Week” to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experience. Each year, Rutgers – Camden celebrates with a full-week of dedicated programming (see their calendar here) and OSDFA joins the fun by featuring the awards and applicants who embrace cultural exchange. Check out our flier, below, for a preview of what you can look forward to and be sure to stay tuned on our social media (Instagram & LinkedIn) for special features throughout the week.
Applicant Updates
In November 2024, three Rutgers – Camden alumni were named “finalists” for the Schwarzman Scholars program and completed interviews in NYC. Please join us in congratulating Omar Khasawneh (CCAS ‘22), Tania Martinez (CCAS ‘22) and Sydney Johnson (CCAS ‘22) for this tremendous achievement.
In November 2024, Jochebed Peace Airede (CCAS ‘24) was named a finalist for the Rhodes West-Africa Scholarship to study at Oxford University. Over a weekend, she interviewed with representatives from Rhodes and selectors in Lagos, Nigeria. At the conclusion of the weekend, Ms. Airede was named “alternate” for the award, earning the top placement for a non-scholar. We are bursting with pride for this recognition and achievement for Ms. Airede who continues to proudly represent Rutgers – Camden on a global scale. Want to learn more about Jochebed and her experiences as an international scholar? Check out her guest blog here.
OSDFA in the world
Fall has been a busy season for OSDFA outside the walls of Armitage Hall. In October, both Laura & Jordan hit the road for professional activities. Laura spent two-days at UMBC in Baltimore, MD attending at workshop dedicated to the Gilman Scholarship while Jordan flew to Pittsburgh, PA to participate in the annual NACADA conference. More recently, Laura attended a two-day meeting with representatives from the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and Institute of International Education (IIE) in Washington, DC. Next up? Laura heads to NYC as a representative of the Fulbright Program in December – stay tuned!
Professional Awards Week
Our final “themed” week of programming for Fall 2024 is scheduled for December 2-6 when we will highlight and celebrate the many opportunities available to applicants looking to gain professional experience, either while continuing studying OR as a postgraduate award. Throughout the week, follow our social media (Instagram & LinkedIn) as we feature select awards, highlight our applicants (and recipients!), and welcome representatives from awards for students to engage with directly.
